No loud music, cocktails at this hot little club, baby
The Province - August 13, 2007
Hey, baby, come here often? It’s a cheesy line, but it may finally be appropriate as a Vancouver woman launches a series of nightclub dance events geared for babies, toddlers, young children and their parents.
Dance Generationz kicks off Sept. 23 at Plush Nightclub at the Plaza of Nations.
Event creator Susan Boensch (a mother of four) says she expects to sell at least 500 tickets to the afternoon dance. Instead of cocktails and a flurry of hormones, Dance Generationz will feature healthy finger foods, a lightshow, bubble machines, stroller parking and a VIP room transformed to a child’s play area.
And no, the sound system will not be endless loops of “Baby Beluga.” Dancers will instead groove to DJ-ed tunes by the likes of the B-52s, Black Eyed Peas and Barenaked Ladies — all suitably edited to be free of sexual content and graphic language and kept at a safe volume for little ears.
“This is really a social outing that’s meant to be fun for parents,” said Boensch, who came up with the idea after seeing similar parties in Europe.
Boensch said more goo-goo ga-ga gatherings are planned at Plush in October and November. For more information, check out dancegenerationz.com.
